The Bloons TD 5 app for android is a tower defense game variation published by Digital Goldfish that basically uses monkeys as towers and balloons as enemies. Essentially, the objective of the game is to defend the road from enemies. There are various types of monkeys ranging from dart slinging and tack shooters to huge Mayan monkey temples which consume all the other towers around them to create a heinous monkey which use the special attack capabilities of the consumed towers as special ammo. The monkeys can be upgraded. The game provides two upgrade methods for each monkey and allows you to purchase the first and the last two tiers in a single path. The first upgrade results into a insanely strong and persistently strong tower, while the subsequent upgrade results into a less powered monkey that possesses a unique ability with a cool-down.

The sniper monkey can call for an airdrop while the wizard monkey can invoke a phoenix, a Massive Ornary Air Blimp (MOAB) seeking missile and the cannon tower. Some monkeys have unique modes like flying monkeys which have various patrol modes and a Gatling gun which follows your touch. Two special towers are also available, a monkey village which boosts the towers in its vicinity and a banana farm which assists you in gathering money.

In addition to the monkey upgrade and ability feature, different permanent upgrades and one time use special agents can be bought. There is also a buying land feature on the main screen that allows you to put up buildings on it which is also an alternative to permanently upgrade the towers. These systems depend on spending real dollars to get in game currency. Getting in game currency gives you the ability to use all the things in the game while avoiding playing ten rounds in order to be able to purchase a single use agent in the eleventh round. For example, it costs 2,500 monkey dollars to purchase the building which upgrades the super monkey, getting this amount of monkey dollars costs 5 real dollars. The balloons start out simple and can be defeated using a single dart, however, different colored balloons concealing other balloons begin to appear and should be taken seriously. Soon, camouflaged balloons begin to appear and can exclusively be seen by ninja monkeys. There are others that are immune to darts and can only be defeated using blunt weapons such as boomerangs. Some balloons have self regeneration abilities which heal themselves if not defeated quickly enough. More advanced balloons burst into several smaller balloons if not quickly taken out, as the player levels up, these balloons become much bigger and burst out into more balloons.

All in all, the game graphics are excellent and each monkey has a unique appearance depending on their abilities. The background music is good. The game is quite affordable, ardent fans of tower defense games will love it.
